Dashing Through the Snow
(like there is any snow here in the Philippines. How I wish... )
It's that time of year again when people forget about bills just to fill their houses with Christmas trees, parols, belens and Christmas lights, when malls are filled with shoppers preparing for gift-giving and noche buena, when ninongs and ninangs usually hide from their godchildren. Yes. It's Christmas once again.
Christmas is usually happy but not these past few years. There had been a lot of calamities going on here and there, locally and internationally. Who could forget about the great tsunami that killed a lot of people last year? Don't forget what happened just recently. Typhoon Reming created a devastating scene in Bicol. Houses were thrashed, families were separated and lives were taken away. Surely it is a scene not very Christmas-y and not very happy at all.
I thank God that He kept me safe, that He gave me a happy Christmas, that I wasn't one of the victims of those calamities. Call me selfish but don't misunderstand me. I'm just happy to be enjoying one of my favorite seasons for another time because there might not be a next time. I wish, pray and hope that the victims will have the strength to move on and that fate won't be ill to them again.
Merry Christmas!
